Welcome to the Target Sniper Blog!

Welcome to the Target Sniper Blog!!!
Welcome! This blog is for people of all ages and abilities who really want to improve their shooting! Just a little about me, I am a new unranked USPSA member, I am relatively new to all shooting sports. My total shooting experience up to last year was nothing more than shooting holes in paper at an indoor pistol range where we were not even allowed to use a holster, much less try to shoot with any speed. I had done some rifle shooting at a local public outdoor range again just punching holes in paper, nothing dynamic at all. Towards the end of last summer I had the good fortune to be invited by a friend at work to go to a "Funshoot" at a local gun club. I had no idea just how much "fun" I was about to have at the "Funshoot"! For the first time I had the chance to shoot with people who ranged in ability levels from Grand Master USPSA to a bumpkin like myself who thought he was a good shot. I can't stress enough how important it is to find a great club with an active shooting program to improve your shooting!!! We shot steel pepper poppers, cardboard IPSIC targets, moving IPSIC targets, a "Texas Star" which if you have never done is a hoot, the plates fall off as you shoot and once one falls off it starts to spin! We shot small quarter water bottles, soda cans, tomatoes, even a plate rack. The next few videos I will post will show what most these targets look like and how they operate. By the end of the year I had entered my first real USPSA match, (we won't talk too much about my first 2 USPSA outings....) and a Steel Challenge match. Next month I will be shooting my first "Multi-Gun" event. It will include both pistol (9mm Glock) and rifle (5.56 Stag AR15) shooting! In future videos I hope to show some of my bad habits (yes we all have them!), and how I am trying to eliminate them. We should have some basic shooting drills to improve accuracy, maybe even let you see me in action at a real match! We will have to see about that part after I find out how it goes! LOL!! Anyway thanks for stopping by and enjoy what's here!!!

My First Multi-Gun Match! @ IWLA #67

Wow! I just finished shooting my first multi gun match....
I was shooting my Glock 34 9mm and my Stag Arms 3g 5.56mm AR15. Sorry about not getting a lot of photos or video this time out. I'm learning to be a Range Officer (RO) and on the club level matches our club is putting the new Local Range Officers through the paces. We have all been through the club level class and we are practicing our skills. We have to run timers, run the shooters (issue range commands and clear the weapons), do scoring, and run the Palm OS scoring handhelds if they are in use. I did sneak a picture of the morning group at the front pits gathering for a match briefing. We always have a great turnout, most matches we have a waiting list to get in the matches. I can't stress enough if you have a good club in your area join. You will learn faster and have access to a great group of people. Ok, now for the how I did..... I only shot the morning Rifle/Pistol match since I had to work in the afternoon. I shot a 3 stage match. Stage 1 I messed up. I should have used my scope, it was mini IPSIC paper, with walls and opening separating the targets. I opted to try my open sights since the targets seemed close enough. Wrong decision. I had a ton of penalty time added for only having one hit but not in the "A" zone. If you didn't hit the "A" zone you had to have 2 hits on the paper. The other 2 stages went much better. I should have at least snapped a picture so you could see the stages. I will remember that next time. I hope to have a mount for my Iphone on my gun cart that I will be able to shoot video from. That way I can just start the video camera and let it run while I do whatever I have to do for the stage.
